Udemy also has free and paid courses, where there are free courses for marketing purposes, and when an instructor reaches their marketing goal, the free course is rolled into a paid course.
This is actually a good strategy and benefits both students and teachers. Students receive the course for free while the instructor receives their reviews and social proof.
Some, but not all, Udemy courses also offer a certificate of completion, which you can display on your resume or add to your LinkedIn profile.
The best part about Udemy is its flash sales, which happen every month. If you’re lucky, you can get some of the $200 bootcamp style courses like Colt Steel’s The Web Developer Bootcamp and The iOS Developer Bootcamp for only $10, that’s great.

The courses also have professional certifications and specializations, which are nothing more than a set of related classes to develop a certain strategy. Although the courses are free to audit, you have to pay to get a Coursera certificate.
It has some of the best machine learning specializations in the world, like this deep learning specialization offered by deeplearning.ai, which is led by Andrew Ng, one of the founders of Coursera and a pioneer in machine learning.
If you’re looking to get into the world of machine learning and data science, there’s no better place than Coursera. More than half a million people have studied this specialization.

Coursera also has online degrees and they recently launched guided projects that can be used to learn a new skill quickly. For example, you can do this Python Data Structure project and you can learn essential data structures like dictionaries in 2 hours.
The best thing about guided projects is that you don’t need to download or configure anything. Your workspace is a cloud desktop in your browser, and your instructor explains what to do in a split-screen video. Probably best after classroom and personal training.
On the other hand, Coursera doesn’t do flash sales like Udemy, and it also doesn’t have a collection like Udemy, which has more than 80,000 courses to learn almost anything, but in terms of quality, most courses on Coursera are very good. .
Coursera Learning Platform Review
You can’t say anything about Udemy, since anyone can create courses there, and most of them don’t have a proper structure, but if you compare the top-quality Udemy courses with the top-notch specialization of Coursera, they are perfect.
Not only are they well structured, but they also teach in a style that is not academically oriented but has an informal and personal touch. It’s like the YouTube of online courses where you can just search and learn anything you want.
You also have many options. If you are not connected to an instructor, you can also choose one; Coursera doesn’t have that many options.
So you see, both Coursera and Udemy have a strong point and a weak point. Although Udemy has more courses, Coursera courses are usually well structured, especially the machine learning ones.
Here’s What Learning Should Really Look Like: A Coursera Redesign
Coursera also allows you to learn from the best universities in the world, and their certificates generally have more value because they are offered by the best universities along with Coursera.
In terms of learning, if you prefer a personal and informal style, then I suggest you go to Udemy, but if you are looking for a well-structured and academic course like this, then Coursera is a better choice.
Again, these are just observations, and it varies a lot between courses and instructors, so it’s always good to have a preview of the course you want to join. If you can get the preview without too many redirects and interruptions, it’s a good indicator of a quality course.
And, if you are looking for alternatives to Udemy and Coursera, you can also check out sites like Pluralsight, Educative, LinkedIn Learning, CodeCademy, which offers many high-quality technology-related courses for programmers and developers.
