Online Course On Human Rights – Human rights are under pressure in many places around the world. Peaceful protests are violently crushed. Voting is rigged. And minorities are often excluded from decision-making. All this threatens the ideal of an open society in which we can all be free and participate equally. A substantive protection of human rights is essential to the existence and flourishing of a free society. But working towards that ideal is often a struggle. Equip yourself and learn more about what human rights are and how they work.

Corruption is recognized as one of the biggest obstacles to the realization of human rights and the achievement of sustainable development, both locally and globally. Corruption diverts funds from investment in public services, undermines the rule of law, distorts the justice system, interferes with the political process, and affects the delivery of public services, such as the right to education and access to adequate health care, to name just a few examples. . Despite this, we rarely see anti-corruption standards and mechanisms highlighted as a tool to ensure respect and protection of human rights, or vice versa.
The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law () and the Swedish Institute Against Corruption (IMM) invite you to bring these two fields together and present evidence of the benefits of integrating anti-corruption and human rights mechanisms. A two-week online course from 11-22 October 2021.

Human rights are basic rights that belong to everyone because they are only human. These fundamental rights apply equally to everyone regardless of sex, gender, age, sexual orientation or any other status. First established in 1948 by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), today human rights are codified in legally binding treaties such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Human rights are enforced by international courts such as the European Court of Human Rights or the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. States have a duty to respect, protect and fulfill human rights but many fail to fulfill their obligations.
