Risc V Online Course – The Linux Foundation is the official organization behind Linux and is at the forefront of collaboration on open source software, open hardware, open data and open standards.
Recently, they have partnered with RISC-V International, an organization that wants to adopt and implement the open source RISC-V ISA (Instruction Set Architecture).

Now, they have announced two new free online courses being made available on edX.org, a learning platform founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Risc V Archives
The first course, “Introduction to RISC-V”, will introduce trainees to the various aspects of the RISC-V architecture, they will also learn how to contribute to the ISA specifications and a wide range of RISC-V software projects.
This course is aimed at RISC-V enthusiasts, hardware nerds and other end users interested in knowing the workings of this open source architecture.
The second course, “Building a RISC-V CPU Core“, is more focused on the technical side and is for those who want to learn more about the hardware.
This is a crash course in digital logic design and basic CPU microarchitecture. Using an online integrated development environment (IDE) called “Makerchip” the trainees will be taught to implement simple things like logic gates and, in later stages, more complex things like a RISC-V CPU core construction.

Risc V: Berkeley Hardware For Your Berkeley Software (distribution)
With the recent increase in interest and deployment of RISC-V cores, systems-on-chips (SoCs), developer programs, and software and tools, there is a real need to empower individuals to implement and use RISC-V. To help meet that demand, these free online courses are designed to significantly lower the barrier to learning RISC-V skills.
The first edition, Introduction to RISC-V (LFD110x), guides you through the RISC-V ecosystem, the RISC-V specifications, how to maintain and develop RISC-V specifications, and the technical aspects of working with RISC -V both as a developer and end user. The course provides the knowledge you will need to engage with the RISC-V community; contributing to ISA specifications; and developing a wide variety of RISC-V software and hardware projects. This course was developed by Jeffrey “Jefro” Osier-Mixon, program manager for RISC-V International, and Stephano Cetola, technical program manager for RISC-V International.
The second course, Building a RISC-V CPU Core (LFD111x) , focuses on the digital logic design and microarchitecture of a basic central processing unit (CPU). There you will learn to use Makerchip’s online integrated development environment (IDE). You will implement technologies from logic gates to a simple and complete RISC-V CPU core. The class will introduce participants to various emerging technologies that support the open source hardware ecosystem, including RISC-V transaction level verilog. This class was developed by Steve Hoover, the founder of Redwood EDA.
