Communication in an online environment is a unique skill that our students will undoubtedly use in the future. Establishing standards for communication with teachers and between students is crucial to classroom management online. When video conferencing, for example, standards and expectations for things like background noise, camera use, and advance the discussion. Norms are also necessary for typing in online forums. Remember that we work with students, and you will meet some who do not understand online communication etiquette and others who understand the consequences must prevent unacceptable use of communication tools.
When establishing standards and routines, it is important to expect students to follow them and be consistent in your response when they do not. Let students know about consequences and punishments in advance and stick to your word. you

I am fortunate to have a fantastic team behind me to keep our business going through all the confusion, but I still have some questions about the future of this industry.

Schools were first closed in the United States due to Covid-19 on March 16. Initially, this was meant to be a short-term closure – but in the next few days, many states decided to close schools for the rest of the academic year. At the time I write this (about ten months later), 41 states are still ordered to close their schools, seven states are recommended to close their schools, and two states have expired closures. Everything from pre-school to post-grad was essentially forced to close their physical locations. And unless they wanted to send their students on a year-long summer break, they had to transition to online places. Unfortunately, this was a hard transition that caused a lot of headaches – both figuratively in the case of test results, and literally with regard to Zoom fatigue.
Nevertheless, it seems likely that many institutions that have undergone these changes will make them permanent. If they don’t use them to completely replace in-person classes, some have been inspired to focus heavily on their online offerings in the near future.
Unfortunately, it seems that many educators who make this switch care more about reducing costs and less about improving the quality of their students’ education. According to a survey of over 80,000 students, only 11% of high school and 15% of college students felt that their online courses were as effective as physical classroom sessions.
Online Schooling Raises Inequality
Our modern education system was largely defined by the Industrial Revolution. But after a roughly 300-year period that saw monumental advances in art, science, medicine, and politics, relatively little has changed about this old-fashioned system.
But when you consider that literacy, standardized test scores, and college enrollment have been trending downward even before the pandemic, I think that suggests we can do more to improve it than simply getting more smartboards and Chromebooks.
Now that we are in the midst of what many experts call the fourth industrial revolution, it seems like a great time to give our education system a much-needed facelift. For several years, scientific journals and think tanks have been discussing what changes need to be made to prepare young people for a rapidly changing workplace.
What are some ways to achieve this? Many online learning platforms are building more immersive study environments with better designed software and state-of-the-art hardware such as VR. In addition, higher education and test preparation companies are now implementing adaptive learning technology – a form of machine learning that has significant benefits for students.
