Marker Board

Marker Board – A whiteboard (also known as a marker board, dry erase board, dry erase board, and p-board) is a glossy, usually white surface for making non-permanent marks. Whiteboards are analogous to chalkboards, but with a smoother surface that allows for quick marking and erasing of markings on their surface. Whiteboards skyrocketed in popularity in the mid-1990s and became a fixture in many offices, boardrooms, school classrooms, and other work environments.

The term whiteboard is also used metaphorically to refer to features of computer software applications that simulate whiteboards. Such “virtual technology whiteboards” allow one or more people to write or draw pictures on a simulated canvas. This is a common feature of many virtual meeting, collaboration and instant messaging applications. The term whiteboard is also used to refer to interactive whiteboards.

Whiteboards became commercially available in the early 1960s, but did not become widely used until 30 years later. Earlier whiteboards needed to be wiped with a damp cloth, and markers tended to leave marks, even after wiping the board.

They became more common in classrooms in the 1990s due to concerns about health problems in children with dust allergies and chalk dust pans that could damage computers. By the late 1990s, about 21% of American classrooms had switched from blackboards to blackboards.

The first boards were very expansive and were made of enameled steel. Less expensive versions are produced, including laminated chipboard, high-pressure laminates, and steel sheets with a matte or gloss white, usually polyester or acrylic coating. enameled boards, also called porcelain and sometimes glass boards, have the advantage that the markings can be completely erased; other materials will stain over time. enameled countertops are more expressive and less used in commercial establishments, but in more demanding environments with higher usage, such as educational institutions, porcelain countertops are considered superior.

Other types of dry marker boards are available, such as high-gloss vinyl and coated paper, which can be rolled up, two-part high-gloss paints, glass and coated acrylic boards, and magic white polypropylene boards that use static electricity to stick to walls, windows and doors.

Clear marking surfaces, made of glass (matte or glossy) or specially coated acrylic, became available in the mid-2000s. They are mainly made of technical glass, e.g. for monitor filters, which is optically coated.

Whiteboard material can be purchased in rolls, sheets and pre-formed boards. Adhesive whiteboards come in a sheet or roll and have a stick backing that allows the user to create a custom size whiteboard or project with the material. Although whiteboard adhesive does not come in a thick, hard glass or painted steel sheet, melamine allows for a flexible material while maintaining the high-quality whiteboard attributes of other surface materials.

Sticky whiteboards allow for custom projects like dry-erase wall calendars, whiteboard tables, pantry grocery lists, indoor games for kids, and more.

One type of whiteboard p (also called whiteboard marker or dry erase marker) was proposed by Jerry Wolf of Techform Laboratories and later patted by Pilot P in 1975.

It is a non-permanent marker and uses an erasable ink that adheres to the writing surface without binding or absorbing it. Applications range from temporary writing on acetate sheets (for use with overhead projectors) to whiteboards and similar glossy surfaces. Erasable ink does not contain the toxic chemical compounds xyl and/or toluene, unlike permanent markers.

A resin-impregnated paper commonly used on substrates that can range from chipboard to MDF (medium-density fibreboard). Melamine boards differ in quality primarily due to the amount of resin applied to the base material. Some melamine plates remain clean (ghost-free) for a long time, others less so. In general, this least explicit type of whiteboard is most often used in non-institutional applications. They are available at any office supply store. Performance varies widely. These boards are not suitable for heavy use, as in many educational cases, over time the paint erodes and the original surface reappears.

Painted steel and aluminum dry erase also have a wide range of qualities. Painted surfaces should be smoother, leading to better wiping methods. A painted surface is generally a multi-layer coating consisting of a colored base coat (most often white) and a clear coat that is a dry erase component. Color varies from electron beam cured coatings to UV and other coating systems. Good commercial painted steel or aluminum has excellent dry erase properties and many will be able to clean permanent marker off the surface. Any coated surface is susceptible to scratching. Painted steel surfaces are magnetic and allow the use of magnets. Colored aluminum surfaces are rarely used as a base for whiteboards because they are non-magnetic and more expressive than steel. White painted steel boards are most commonly used for custom printed boards. These products are used as tracking boards, patit information boards, and tournament and training boards.

Here too, performance varies widely depending on the amount of resin used by the manufacturer. This category primarily uses melamine as its dry erase coating. Depending on the manufacturer (and price) these laminates are often less porous and highly stain resistant. Less common than other chalkboard surfaces, as they are usually used in combination with something else (for example, a cabinet, door or table tops). Ceramics fired on a steel surface in a kiln. They are the most durable surfaces and most of them have a lifetime warranty. They are very common in high-use industrial environments. They are very scratch resistant, although materials harder than glass, such as diamond, can scratch them. They do not absorb dry erase ink or permanent marker ink. They allow the use of magnets. The surface can be cleaned with any non-abrasive cleaner suitable for porcelain, rinsed with water to prevent smearing. Permanent marker can be removed using a polar solvent such as ethanol, isopropanol, or acetone, or by overwriting with a dry erase marker and erasing.

Polypropylene sheeting is temporary and uses static electricity to adhere to existing surfaces. Works with dry board markers and wipes. Whiteboards can be reused and materials can be recycled.
